Nothing feels and looks better in a new home than brand new
carpet. Keeping your carpet in top condition is easy with some simple care
guidelines.
A good vacuum cleaner can be a carpet's best friend. Regular,
thorough vacuuming removes loose dirt and dust from inside the fibers of your
carpet. Over time these small particles dull the carpet's appearance therefore
frequent vacuuming will keep the fibers' good appearance and extend their life.
High traffic areas may need vacuuming more frequently. Make sure to use a
vacuum with a good beater bar and maximum suction. Vacuum cleaner attachments
make it easy to clean the edge of your carpet along walls and stairs to avoid
dust build up.
Changing your vacuum cleaner bag frequently will allow your
vacuum to function at an optimum level. Place walk-off mats in entryways. These
will greatly reduce the amount of dirt brought into your home.
Any time a spill occurs it should be treated as soon as possible. Immediately
blot up as much of the liquid or debris with a dry cloth or paper towel. The
longer you wait the more the stain will soak into the carpet's fibers. Rubbing
or scrubbing the carpet with a rag will damage the fibers and permanently scar
the appearance of your carpet. Use warm (not hot) water to rinse the stained
area completely. Press clean cloths deeply into the carpet to take up any
remaining moisture until the stain no longer appears on the cloth.
If a stain remover is needed, make sure excess moisture is blotted before
applying. Make sure not to over apply. Next thoroughly rinse the area with warm
water, then absorb the excess dampness with a clean cloth. After carpet has
dried, vacuum the carpet to restore texture.
Time and use will naturally take its toll on your carpet. To
protect the investment you have made in your flooring it is necessary to have
carpets properly cleaned by a professional cleaner approximately once a year.
Take advantage of the knowledge, equipment and experience of a reputable,
professional carpet cleaning service. They can do a more thorough job of
removing stubborn stains and embedded soil. Keep in mind, however, that you
only want to do this when necessary, as too much professional cleaning can
damage your carpet.
Carpeting keeps your home warm and cozy while enhancing its
beauty and value. Regular maintenance as well as professional care will allow
your carpet to look beautiful for years to come.
Keep in mind that if a repair is necessary in the future, the
replacement product may be a slightly different dyelot and/or texture than the
initial installation. However, with time and usage your repair will blend in
with original product.
